Vol. 2 No. 37

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ ORAL ANSWERS. ] - ABSENT TEACHTAI.

To ask the Minister for Finance if he will consider putting proposals before this Dáil providing that Deputies who are consistently absent from the service of the House, and Deputies who are in receipt of salaries for other services in the State, shall have the allowances conferred on them by this Dáil withdrawn during the times of such absence or other service.

No, Sir. Of those Deputies who have taken their seats in the Dáil I am not aware that any are consistently absent except those few who are well known to be engaged on important public service. The consideration of this matter might open the door to the case of some Deputies who attend regularly on some matters and irregularly on others.
