Vol. 2 No. 37

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ ORAL ANSWERS. ] - GOVERNMENT'S HOUSING POLICY.

To ask the Minister for Local Government if he will announce the Government's housing policy to the Dáil, and if, in view of the fact that Local Authorities have not called on the full amounts allotted to them for 1922-23, he will take steps to encourage building of houses by private enterprise, if he will offer to private builders half the amount per house that they are now granting to Local Authorities, and if he will encourage the purchase of houses under the Small Dwellings Act.

As stated in reply to a similar question on the 28th ultimo, the policy of the Government in regard to housing in the coming financial year will shortly be announced.

The proposals in the scheme now being carried out by Local Authorities will exhaust the Government grant of £1,000,000 for 1922-23. It will not be paid in the present year, but commitments will be entered into covering the whole of the grant.
