Vol. 2 No. 38

[WRITTEN ANSWERS.] - DEPENDENTS' ALLOWANCES.

To ask the Minister for Defence what is the explanation of the delay in payment of dependents' allowance to Mrs. M. Cahill, of 13 Mill Road, Wexford, whose son joined the National Army last July, and whose claim for allowance was acknowledged on the 27th November under the Reference, A/N 11850 by the Assistant Chief Paymaster at Portobello Barracks, and if he will have the case dealt with without further delay.

The delay in paying dependents' allowance to Mrs. Cahill was due to difficulties of ascertaining particulars required for the assessment of her claim.

The case has now been settled, and payment will be made regularly in future.

DOMHNALL O MUIRGHEASA

To ask the Minister for Defence if he can state why no dependents' allowance has yet been paid to Mrs. J. Whelan, of Abbey Street, Nenagh, in respect of Vol. L. Whelan, who joined the National Army on the 30th October, 1922, and if he will expedite the consideration of this case.

Dependents' allowance was paid as from the 29th October, 1922, to Mrs. Whelan on the 6th and 24th ultimo, and on the 5th instant, and will be paid fortnightly in future.

To ask the Minister for Defence if he will state why no dependents' allowance has yet been paid to Mrs. Kate Byrne, of 34 Sweetman's Avenue, Blackrock, in respect of her grandson, Volunteer Patrick Flynn, V.R. 175, who joined the National Army on the 12th July, 1922, and is at present stationed at Keogh Barracks, and whether, in view of the fact that Mrs. Byrne is dependent upon the old age pension and is also responsible for the maintenance of the soldier's sister, who is a school-girl, he will inquire into the case and have payment of any allowance due expedited.

Mrs. Byrne's application was received on the 27th ultimo, and is under local investigation. The necessary inquiries are being expedited.
