Vol. 2 No. 42

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. - [ORAL ANSWERS.] CLAIM FOR OLD AGE PENSION.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

To ask the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that the old age pension awarded on February 2nd, 1923, to Mr. Frank O'Hara, Kilcurry, Edgeworthstown, was stopped by the Local Government Ministry on March 5th, his age being questioned; whether failing, his inability to obtain birth or marriage certificates, Mr. O'Hara can produce sworn testimony, signed by two gentlemen older than himself, in support of his claim to be over 70 years of age. Further, whether, in view of this and of the fact that this man is destitute, the Minister can see his way to have payment of his pension resumed.

(for Minister for Local Government): Applicant's claim to old age pension was passed by the Granard Pension SubCommittee on the 23rd ultimo. An appeal against the award has since been lodged with the Ministry by the Pension Officer, and notice to that effect was given to Mr. O'Hara.

The pension has not been refused, and the appeal is still under consideration.

Mr. O'Hara's name was not in the family record at the Census of March, 1851, and his birth certificate has not been produced, but he has submitted sworn statements from two neighbours who testify that he is 70 years of age.

The case is being investigated, and a decision will be given as soon as possible.
