Vol. 2 No. 44

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - SOLICITOR'S ARREST.

To ask the Minister for Defence whether it is a fact that Mr. Sean O hUadhaigh, Solicitor, Dun Laoghaire, has been arrested, and is now detained by the Military Authorities; if so, will he state the reasons for his arrest; whether any definite charges have been preferred against him, or if he is to be placed on trial; and whether in view of the fact that this man's business is suffering considerably because of his detention, the Minister will either have him tried immediately or set at liberty.

Mr. O hUadhaigh was arrested on suspicion of being implicated in an attempt on the part of certain prisoners to impersonate other prisoners who were chargeable with offences punishable with the death penalty notwithstanding that upon his professional and personal honour he solemnly promised not to take advantage in any way of the permission accorded to him to interview prisoners except to discuss and prepare his defence. The case against Mr. O hUadhaigh is under consideration.

Will the Minister say if it is proposed to bring him to trial.

It is under consideration.
