Vol. 2 No. 44

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - TEACHERS' SALARIES WITHHELD.

To ask the Minister for Education if he is aware that several teachers have had their salaries withheld—some for a period of six months or over—because of reports which have apparently been made against them to the Military Authorities; will be state if such salaries have been withheld by order of the Military Authorities; if so, what steps have been taken by the Education Office or the Military Authorities to investigate the truth or otherwise of such reports, and will he take steps to see that in the absence of any definite and substantiated charges, payment will be immediately made to such teachers.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative, and to the second part in the negative. The third part of the question appears to be dealt with in question 15.

Has the Minister's Department anything to say in the matter?

I think the proper answer to the third part of the question will be given in reply to question 15.
