Vol. 2 No. 46

[WRITTEN ANSWERS.] - ROSCREA ARRESTS.

DOMHNALL O MUIRGHEASA

To ask the Minister for Defence if he is aware that Cornelius and Laddie Heffernan were arrested at Roscrea at midnight on the 28th ult.; if he will state the charge, if any, which is to be preferred against them; if they are to be brought to trial, and, if so, when? Whether he is aware that one of those boys had intended to sit for the Easter Scholarship Examination for entrance to a Teachers' Training College, and that his arrest so close to the examination will spoil his chance of success, and if, in view of this he will have inquiries made into this case immediately with a view of having them brought to trial or released?

These boys, Cornelius and Laddie Heffernan were arrested as stated on suspicion of being implicated in the burning of the house of Dr. O'Connell, Roscrea, and of firing into private houses. Steps are being taken with a view to having them put on trial.
