Vol. 3 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ ORAL ANSWERS. ] - POSSESSION OF MONASTEREVAN HOUSE.

asked the Minister for Home Affairs if he is aware that Miss Kelly, Whelan Street. Monasterevan, Co. Kildare, who has had possession of the house in which she lives for 58 years, has received notice to quit from a Mr. Coughlan, who has bought the house over her head; that he has taken possession of her garden without legal authority, and claims that he requires the house for his own use, although he has a large house and shop in which he is at present living; that the District Court, sitting on the 8th March, 1923, decided that the notice to quit was not legally served and that the case will be brought before the next District Court on the 12th instant, and whether he will, in view of the feeling against evictions in this country in the past, take steps immediately to protect this poor woman's interest, and allay the local resentment and disturbance which this eviction, if carried out, will undoubtedly lead to?

Mr. O'HIGGINS

I am not aware of the matters referred to in the question, but I am having enquiries made. However, as the case is stated to be the subject of proceedings in the District Court, it would appear prima facie that no interference by my Department is called for.
