Vol. 3 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ ORAL ANSWERS. ] - A TULLAMORE RESOLUTION.

asked the Minister for Defence if his attention has been drawn to, or if he has received, the following resolution from the Tullamore Rural District Council—viz.:—

"That this Council request the Government to furnish them with information as to Mr. Boland's arrest and detention, why he was arrested, and why he was detained. He is looked on as the best and most energetic member of the Public Bodies to which he is attached— namely, the County and District Councils and the Hospital and Homes Committee, in the business of which he displays a keen interest. He is most inoffensive, and although he used arms against the British, he has never done so against his former comrades, nor does he approve of same. He holds certain constitutional views, to which every man is entitled, but has never tried to make any man follow them by force, when he could not convince them by argument. He was Peace Commissioner of the Offaly No. 2 Brigade for two years at his own expense, and during that period he gave entire satisfaction to all parties concerned. We request his immediate release, as we hold there was no justification for his arrest."

And if he will state whether he is prepared to recommend the release of Mr. Boland, or state the reason for his continued detention?

I have received a copy of the resolution quoted, but I am not yet in a position, pending certain enquiries, to give a full reply. The enquiries are being expedited.
