Vol. 3 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ ORAL ANSWERS. ] - TOBACCO PRICES.

asked the Minister for Finance whether as stated in letters recently circulated in the Free State by retailers from England of English manufactured tobaccos and cigarettes, the English Customs officials are prepared to issue all orders of or exceeding £2 in value in bond; and whether he will consider making a statement on the increase recently made in the price of English manufactured cigarettes and tobaccos by retailers in this country?

I have not seen the letter to which the Deputy refers, but if he will send me a copy I will have inquiries made. The Deputy, no doubt, realises that I am not answerable for what British Customs Officials may or may not be prepared to do and that all tobaccos and cigarettes imported for consumption in the Free State will without exception have to pay Customs duty in future to the Free State.

The second part of the Deputy's question is not one for my Department.
