Vol. 3 No. 2

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ ORAL ANSWERS. ] - MILITARY PRISONERS' DEATHS.

asked the Minister for Home Affairs whether any inquest has been held respecting the deaths of four military prisoners at the Countess Bridge, Killarney, on Wednesday, 7th March, and if not, will he arrange with the Minister for Defence for an enquiry to be held into the circumstances surrounding the deaths of these prisoners?

also asked whether the Minister is now in a position to give an answer to the question asked on Tuesday, March 27th, relating to the death of eight prisoners at Ballyseedy Bridge, Tralee, on March 8th.

An inquest was not held respecting the deaths of the four prisoners at the Countess Bridge, Killarney, on Thursday morning, the 8th March. An order for a military inquiry into the circumstances was issued on the 4th April. The papers on the inquiry reached my office only late last night, together with the papers relating to the Ballyseedy inquiry referred to in Question No. 5, and I have not had an opportunity of going through them.

If the questions referring to both these cases are repeated in the next Question Paper I shall deal with them.
