Vol. 3 No. 2

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ ORAL ANSWERS. ] - MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT ACT, 1919.

asked the Minister for Local Government if the Ministry of Transport Act, 1919, was one of the Acts taken over under Article 73 of the Constitution; if it is now being administered; and, if so, who are the members comprising the Road Committee provided for under that Act; and, if not, if he will consider the appointment of such a Committee?

The Minister for Local Government has asked me to answer this question as follows:—The Act, in so far as it affects roads, bridges and ferries, and vehicles and traffic thereon, has, since the 4th October last, been administered by the Ministry of Local Government. Under the Ministry of Transport Act, 1919, the Roads Committee was one for Great Britain and Ireland, and a Sub-Committee thereof was appointed for Ireland. When under the Treaty the Road Committee ceased to have functions in Ireland the Irish Sub-Committee dissolved. The question of appointing a new Committee for the Saorstát is being considered.
