Vol. 3 No. 7

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - KERRY TEACHER'S ARREST.

asked the Minister for Defence whether Thomas Jones, Principal Teacher of Lettir National School, Glenbeigh, Kerry, has been arrested by Military Forces and detained at Killarney; whether he is aware that a few days previous to his arrest the military visited his house and found him not at home, that on the following day he presented himself at Killorglin Barracks and explained that he had been visiting his brother-in-law, who was ill, and has since died, that he was thereupon ordered to report again in a few days, and that when, in compliance to this order, he reported on April 5th, he was arrested and has since been detained. Will the Minister say what are the charges against Mr. Jones; whether he has been given an opportunity of signing the usual undertaking, and whether it is proposed to release him.

Mr. Jones was arrested by troops outside Killorglin on suspicion of being concerned in a case of kidnapping, and he is interned in Tralee. It is not proposed to release him.

Would the Minister say if it is proposed to bring him to trial on the charge mentioned?

I shall have inquiries made on that matter.
