Vol. 3 No. 8

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - PUBLICANS AND SUMMER TIME ACT.

asked the Minister for Home Affairs whether he is aware that the provisions of the Summer Time Act, 1923, are not observed by publicans in the country towns and villages of Longford and Westmeath; whether these traders open their premises according to old time, and whether, in view of this, these publicans may be allowed to open their shops for the sale of intoxicating liquor, and close them as per old time without being liable to prosecution?

If the Deputy will read the Summer Time Act, 1923, he will see that the time of closing for licensed premises is the time determined by that Act. Publicans who allow their premises to be open for the sale of intoxicating liquor after the Statutory hours will certainly be liable to prosecution, and certainly will be prosecuted.
