Vol. 3 No. 15

FINANCE BILL. - DAIL RESUMES.

The Bill is reported as amended. When will the next stage be taken?

The question arises of the adjournment for the coming week. So far as I have been able to learn, members are anxious to get away. In case the Dáil agrees, I take it that members will come back on the Monday following, and I propose to take this Bill on that day.

Fourth Stage of the Bill ordered for Monday, 28th May.

Are we to take it that the adjournment is to be for a week, and that this Bill will be taken on Monday week?

I said that I would leave it to the Dáil, and I found a modesty amongst all members to express their views, but so far as I was able to ascertain them they were in favour of a week's adjournment.

What members expressed agreement?

It is not fair to ask me to break confidences.

Then how could the Minister have got that impression if all parties were not consulted?

We cannot put the question to the Dáil until to-morrow evening. I know three Deputies who are anxious to know the decision. One is a Labour Deputy and the other is a member of the Ministerial Party.

So far as I am able to learn, all the leaders want to come back, but the back benchers do not, and I think the back benchers must be heard.

The Dáil adjourned at 8 p.m. until Friday, 18th May, at 3 p.m.
