Vol. 3 No. 16

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - PRE-TRUCE DÁIL COURTS.

RECEIPTS AND EXPENDITURE.

SEAN O DUINNIN

asked the Minister for Home Affairs whether the receipts and expenditure of the Republican Courts previous to the truce were submitted to the District Justices of their respective districts, and whether this was continued after the truce, and whether he will furnish a return of the receipts and expenditure of the East Cork District Courts from the commencement following the truce until they ceased functioning to each individual District Justice who adjudicated at the sittings of the courts in the aforesaid area; and further, whether any of those Justices received any expenses for car-hire or train fare, and what amount; and whether the East Cork District Court, for which a number of cases were listed and heard, paid its way.

Registrars of the abolished Dáil Courts were required to submit such accounts, but, owing to the disturbed state of some parts of the country it has not always been possible to have complete accounts furnished with regularity, and, in the case of East Cork District Courts, summarised returns only have been presented. These do not show what payments, if any, were made in respect of car-hire or train fares. A return of receipts and expenditure will be furnished, when available, to each of the former District Justices who functioned in the East Cork area. Until the final accounts have been received and examined, it will not be possible to state whether there is a debit or credit balance.
