Vol. 3 No. 19

[ WRITTEN ANSWERS. ] - DEPENDANTS' ALLOWANCES.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware that no payment of dependant's allowance, granted to Mrs. D. Ramsey, Berries, Athlone, in respect of her son, Second Lieut. W. Ramsey, has yet been made; and to ask that payment be expedited.

An allowance of 14s. per week is now being issued to Mrs. Ramsey on combined claims in respect of her sons David and Thomas, and arrears have been paid.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware that Mrs. Winnery, Bastion Street, Athlone, has not received dependant's allowance in respect of her son, Vol. W. Winnery, who joined the Army in June, 1922, and was stationed in Ballinrobe up to January, 1923, when he died from pneumonia contracted whilst acting as dispatch rider; to ask that settlement of this claim be expedited and arrears paid up.

Mrs. Winnery is being paid an allowance of 7s. per week, which was assessed on the combined claims in respect of her sons Michael and William. There are no arrears due to her.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he will expedite payment of dependant's allowance to Mrs. Mary Mullins, Clara Road, Moate, in respect of her son William, who joined the National Army in May, 1922, and who earned £1 17s. 6d. per week before joining, and is at present stationed in Athlone.

An allowance has now been issued to Mrs. Mullins, and arrears have been paid.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware that no dependant's allowance has been paid to Mr. John Fay, Ballinacargy, in respect of his son, Vol. John Fay, who joined the National Army 3rd May, 1922, and is now stationed at the Viceregal Lodge, Phoenix Park, Dublin; and whether, as this family is in poor circumstances owing to the son's absence, the Minister will see that an allowance be granted.

An allowance is now being issued to Mr. Fay, and arrears have been paid.
