Vol. 3 No. 19

[ WRITTEN ANSWERS. ] - EX-OFFICER'S SALARY.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he has received a complaint from ex-Battalion Adjutant Mr. J. Hargrove, of Gort, to the effect that, while he left Gort Barracks on April 5th, 1923, he was paid his wages of £4 per week only to January 1st, 1923; whether it is a fact that other Battalion Adjutants similarly circumstanced were paid to 1st March or 17th March; and whether the balance alleged to be due to Mr. Hargrove will be paid him.

Hargrove's case was not similar to that of other Battalion Adjutants. He was never formally attached to the Army, and his services were not required after the 1st January. He did not work after that date, but was permitted to live in barracks on the plea that he would be in danger of hostile action by Irregulars if he returned home. It is not intended to issue any further pay to him.
