Vol. 3 No. 19

ORDER OF ESTIMATES.

Before we go on to the Orders of the Day I would like to ask if it will be agreeable to the Minister for Finance to adopt another procedure for the consideration of the Estimates after to-day. That is to say, that all the Estimates in connection with a particular Department, the Departments being set forth in some agreed order, should each be taken, the Minister remaining in charge to move each Estimate and relieving all the other Ministers not directly concerned, as well as the Minister for Finance, so that the Dáil may know that all the sub-Departments of a given Department will be dealt with and completed before any other Department is entered upon. If that were done I imagine it would be more convenient than the present arrangement both for the members of the Executive Council and for the members of the Dáil.

I will undertake to consult the other members of the Ministry and see if that would suit their convenience. Personally, I think the idea is a good one, and if it is possible we will carry it out.
