Vol. 3 No. 20

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ ORAL ANSWERS. ] - RECOVERY OF RENTS.

asked the Minister for Home Affairs if he is aware, that Writs and Civil Bills for the recovery of rents are being executed all over the country, and in some instances where only one year's rent is due; could the Minister put a stay on those executions for the recovery of rents until the newly introduced Land Bill is either adopted or rejected by the Oireachtas.

I am aware that in some counties writs for rent have been executed. I trust that the Deputy appreciates the fact that it would be grossly improper on the part of the Executive to attempt in any way to restrict or hamper the free exercise of legal rights. As the law stands I have no power whatever to stay such executions for the recovery of rent.
