Vol. 3 No. 21

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ ORAL ANSWERS. ] - COMMANDEERING OF MOTOR CARS.

SEAMUS O CRUADHLAOICH

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware that three motor cars, the property of Mr. John J. Galvin, William Street, Listowel, were commandeered some twelve months ago by National troops, and that repeated applications have been made for compensation; whether the Minister will see that Mr. Galvin gets his compensation immediately.

A claim has been received from Mr. Galvin in respect of Ford cars stated to have been commandeered. It is under consideration.

SEAMUS O CRUADHLAOICH

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware that a motor car, the property of Mr. Michael Leahy, William Street, Listowel, was commandeered by National troops about twelve months ago, and that repeated applications have been made for compensation by Mr. Leahy and by me; whether, as Mr. Leahy is a poor man, and was entirely dependent on the proceeds of the hire of the car, the Minister will see he is compensated immediately.

Applications have been received from the Deputy and Mr. Leahy for compensation in respect of a Ford car commandeered on the 7th August last. The case is receiving attention.

SEAMUS O CRUADHLAOICH

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware that a motor car, the property of Mr. Francis Malone, Church Street, Listowel, was commandeered by the National troops nearly twelve months ago; whether the Minister will see that Mr. Malone is compensated immediately.

I have received a claim from Mr. Malone in respect of a Ford car stated to have been commandeered on the 4th August last. It is under investigation.
