Vol. 3 No. 23

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - DAIL DECREE ON RENTS.

DOMHNALL O MUIRGHEASA

asked the Minister for Home Affairs if, before proceeding with the Committee Stage of the Rent Restrictions Bill, he will cause to be issued as a Parliamentary Paper the Dáil decree on rents, referred to in paragraph 35 of the Report of the Departmental Committee on the Increase of Rents, etc., Act, 1920.

Will the Minister explain whether it would be possible to obtain copies of this Dáil Decree, which is referred to in the report that has been circulated?

Mr. O'HIGGINS

The Decree referred to is a Dáil Decree of the 11th of March, 1921—the Increase of Rent and Mortgage Interest Restriction Decree. It must be presumed that this Decree was duly promulgated, and that its provisions are already within the knowledge of all concerned.

Is there any means of getting an official notification of where this Decree can be seen? Is it not a matter of necessity that Deputies who are asked to legislate on the basis of a Report which refers to this Decree should have official knowledge of the existence of such Decree?

Mr. O'HIGGINS

We will probably manage to send copies to the Deputies who apply.

Will the Minister meet the case by laying it on the Table of the Dáil?

Mr. O'HIGGINS

I will arrange that before the Committee Stage is reached.

Very well; the paper will be laid on the Table.
