Vol. 3 No. 30

[WRITTEN ANSWERS.] - OFFALY ARREST.

asked the Minister for Defence if he can state the reason for the arrest of Thomas Kelly and his son, Newtown, Horseleap, Offaly, on May 5th, 1923, and for their continued detention in Mullingar Prison; whether, and if so, when, and upon what charge they have been tried, and with what result, and if he is prepared to order their immediate trial or recommend their release.

Thomas Kelly and his son were arrested for being concerned in cattle-driving from the lands of Bracca Castle. They have not been formally charged. They refuse to sign any undertaking as to future behaviour, and are therefore being detained.
