Vol. 3 No. 32

COMMITTEE ON FINANCE. - THE ADJOURNMENT.

I move the adjournment until 3 o'clock on Monday. Some Deputies have represented to me that they wish to get Thursday and Friday off, as they wish to go to the country. We propose to meet on Monday and Tuesday of next week, and to meet on the following Monday as well.

On Monday and Tuesday only?

Yes; these representations have come in during the past two or three days, and I must admit that Deputies have attended very regularly recently. There was also the suggestion that we should not have any business in, I think, the first week in August. I will undertake to meet that also, but it may be necessary to meet on some extra days coming up to it.

Now, the very important point is as to what we will do on Monday.

Estimates on Monday.

Nothing but Estimates? And in what order? In the order we are following on now?

In the order of groups I have given.

That is to say, we shall finish Group 5, and take groups 6, 7 and 8?

Unless Deputies ask for particular groups. I take it that we will be able to deal with Industry and Commerce after that document has been released.

Perhaps it would be better if we could take the less contentious ones, because it is quite possible that there will not be the same attendance on a Monday as on a Tuesday.

Very good.

There is another point to be decided, if we are not going to sit on Wednesday. The Report Stage of the Army Pensions Bill has been fixed for Wednesday. Could it be taken on Tuesday? The Land Bill has been fixed for Tuesday.

It is intended that there should be amendments for the Report Stage.

The Minister for Defence had one matter he promised to consider.

I will endeavour to take that on Tuesday.

Will the Land Bill be taken on Tuesday?

No; on the following Monday, and during that week.

What will be the business for next week, apart from Estimates?

The Order Paper for Tuesday will be the Public Safety Bill, Second Stage, and the Land Trust Powers Bill, Committee. That is a non-contentious measure about British soldiers and sailors. The Civic Guard (Acquisition of Premises) Bill, in Committee, and, if the Minister for Defence is ready, presumably the Army Pensions Bill. In that way the Committee Stage of the Land Bill would be postponed until the following week, and Deputies will therefore have until Thursday of next week to send in amendments.

I had intended to give notice this afternoon of the First Stage of the Electoral Abuses Bill.

Of course, the First Stage does not need notice.

Are we leaving with the distinct understanding that we shall not meet on Wednesday, no matter what the course of business may be on Tuesday?

A summons has gone out to the Seanad to meet on Monday to deal with the National Health Insurance Bill. I take it that is the only thing that could possibly arise which would make it necessary for us to meet on Wednesday. I do not think that will arise. In that case we would not meet on Wednesday; but even if we did, it would be for non-contentious business.

It is assumed that the National Health Insurance Bill will be received again from the Seanad on Tuesday?

I expect so.

The Dáil adjourned at 8.10 p.m. till Monday, 25th June, at 3 o'clock.
