Vol. 5 No. 24

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - WARRANTS FOR ARRESTS.

asked the Minister for Home Affairs if he will make arrangements for all detectives and other persons conducting any search or arrest with official authority to show a signed authority to that effect, and if he will cause a facsimile of the form of such authority to be published.

Every member of the detective branch and plain clothes men has a card of authority bearing the arms and the signature of the Chief Commissioner. It would be inadvisable to publish facsimiles as they might be imitated and used for illegal purposes.

Would the Minister give an assurance that he will insist that any parties conducting a search should produce such an authority at the very outset, thereby showing their right to be there, and so as to give them a standing from the very beginning?

Mr. O'HIGGINS

Yes, I will give that assurance.
