Vol. 6 No. 7

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - REJECTION OF WESTMEATH COMPENSATION CLAIM.

SEÁN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state why the claim of Edward Morrisey, late of Westmeath and 2 Emmet Place, Cork, and at present residing at 387 Blarney Street, Cork, was rejected by the Compensation (Ireland) Commission, 5 Ely Place, Dublin; whether the Minister will have this case reinvestigated with a view to granting compensation.

It has been ascertained that the claim to which the Deputy refers is in respect of loss of employment and this class of case is not within the terms of reference of the Compensation (Ireland) Commission. If the loss sustained is, as alleged, attributable to the action of Crown forces, there will be nothing to prevent the prosecution of a claim before the War Compensation Tribunal when such a body is set up.
