Vol. 6 No. 18

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS ORAL ANSWERS. - DEPENDENTS' ALLOWANCE.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state why dependents' allowance was not paid to Mrs. Sullivan, Kilrush, Co. Clare, in respect of her son, William Sullivan (No. 34285), who joined the National Army on 18th August, 1922, and was discharged on 17th September, 1923.

Mrs. Sullivan's claim was disallowed on the ground that the amount normally contributed by her son, William, towards the maintenance of the home for a reasonable period prior to enlistment was less than the minimum required by the regulations, namely, 12s. per week, before an allowance might be issued.

asked the Minister for Defence why dependents' allowance in the case of Mrs. Jane Mahony, Cloughleigh Road, Ennis, in respect of her son, Private Patrick Mahony, who lost a leg, arm, and eye at Tralee on 27th August, 1922, in a bomb explosion, had been discontinued.

Mrs. Mahony's allowance ceased when her son was discharged from the Army. The question of awarding him a pension or gratuity under the Army Pensions Act is under consideration at the moment.
