Vol. 6 No. 22

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - TRANSFERENCE OF CURRAGH MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR WORKS.

asked the Minister for Defence if it is intended to transfer the maintenance and repairs works at Curragh Camp from the Board of Works to the Engineers Corps or other organisation, and, if so, whether, in view of the large numbers of unemployed in the district, an assurance will be given that all the workmen concerned will be retained.

Such a proposal has been under consideration for some time, but a decision has not yet been taken in the matter.

Arising out of that answer, can the Minister give an assurance that all those workmen who are at present employed, will be retained, even when the work is transferred to the Engineers Corps?

If the maintenance of buildings and repair work at the Curragh Camp are transferred to the Corps of Engineers, it will result in certain economies, and it will not be possible to retain all the civilian employees that are at present retained. The number of civilian employees will be somewhat reduced during the course of the coming year.
