Vol. 7 No. 1

THE GARDA SIOCHANA BILL, 1924 (FIRST STAGE).

On behalf of the Minister for Home Affairs I move for leave to introduce the Gárda Síochána Bill, 1924. The Bill provides for the permanent maintenance and regulation of the Force which had been established by the temporary Act of 1923. That temporary Act contained a section that it should have to further effect beyond a year from the date of its passing, and it now becomes necessary to provide for the permanent regulation and maintenance of the Force. The provisions of the Bill are mainly identical with those of the previous temporary Act. There are a few modifications, mainly regarding the internal economy of the Force which experience has shown to be desirable.

Question put and agreed to.
Bill read a First Time; Second Stage ordered for Wednesday, 7th May.
