Vol. 7 No. 2

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CAHIRCIVEEN CLERGYMAN'S CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the reason of the delay in settling the claim of the Revd. John Warren, M.A., formerly Rector of Cahirciveen, whose house and furniture were taken possession of by the National Army on the 19th December, 1922; whether he is aware that Mr. Warren was unable to find other suitable accommodation and was compelled to resign his position and leave the country.

The Reverend Mr. Warren's claim in respect of the occupation by troops of the Rectory at Cahirciveen is in the hands of the Office of Public Works, which Department deals with claims of the kind on behalf of the Army. I am advised that the claim is in the main for consequential loss, and that claims of this type are not entertained. In so far as the claim is for loss or damage to the Reverend Mr. Warren's furniture, I am requesting that its consideration shall be expedited.

I am not in a position to confirm that Mr. Warren was unable to find other suitable accommodation and was compelled to resign his position and leave the country.
