Vol. 7 No. 2

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - NAAS MOTOR LORRY ACCIDENT.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that Dinah Murray was severely injured, and that Bernard Harrington has since died, as a result of a motor lorry belonging to the Board of Works, Curragh Camp, crashing through a stone wall into their yard alongside the public road at Blueball, Naas, Co. Kildare, on the 17th April, 1924; further, whether he will favourably consider the recommendation of the jury at the inquest held on the 18th April, and award generous compensation to the parents of these children.

The unfortunate occurrence referred to by the Deputy was investigated at the inquest, when the jury returned a verdict that the occurrence was accidental, and added a rider exonerating the driver and all other persons from blame. In the circumstance, no legal liability in the matter rests on the Commissioners of Public Works. The question of compensation would, therefore, be one for settlement on a purely ex gratia basis. I am having further inquiries made in the matter.
