Vol. 7 No. 2

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - SOLDIER'S GRATUITY.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware of the inadequate gratuity of £25 awarded Private Patrick Doyle, of Kilcullen, Co. Kildare; further, if the Medical Board has recommended this man for treatment, as there are still one or two bullets that have not yet been extracted from his leg, and whether he will order medical treatment until he is cured or award him a pension.

The Medical Board which examined Patrick Doyle found that his degree of disablement is less than 20 per cent., and he is, therefore, not entitled to a pension. The Board also found that Doyle's case does not require medical treatment, as his disability is in a final condition. I regret that it is not practicable to increase the amount of gratuity already awarded.
