Vol. 7 No. 2

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - PAYMENT OF ACCOUNTS.

SEAN MAC GIOLLA 'N RIOGH

asked the Minister for Defence if he will give instructions to pay the account of £5 11s. 9d. due to Mr. Alex. McNaughten, Belturbet, County Cavan, since 1921-22.

Claims amounting to £14 7s. 9d. were received from Mr. McNaughten, and payments of £8 16s. 0d. and £1 4s. 0d. were duly made. The draft for the last-named amount has not been returned by the Bank, and steps are being taken to re-issue the sum.

The balance of the charges, namely, £4 7s. 9d. represents a disallowance on the prices charged.

SEAN MAC GIOLLA 'N RIOGH

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state why the account due to Mr. McDermott, Shercock, Co. Cavan, for goods supplied in 1920 and 1922, amounting to £48 14s., has not been paid, and if he will expedite settlement of same.

Claims amounting to £41 16s. 3d. in respect of the period October, 1920, to November, 1921, have been received from Mr. McDermott. Payment of these claims has not been made, as they arose during a period in respect of which claims cannot be discharged out of funds voted for the maintenance of the Army. The general question as to what extent and from what funds these claims may be settled, is having attention. Pending a decision consideration of Mr. McDermott's claims for the abovenamed period must be deferred.

With regard to his claims for goods supplied in 1922, payments amounting to £36 5s. 2d. were made on the 25th May, 14th August, 6th November, and 29th December, 1922.

SEAN MAC GIOLLA 'N RIOGH

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state what is the reason for the delay in payment of account of £13 10s. 0d. due to Patrick McCorry, Toam, Blacklion, Co. Cavan, for sand and cartage of coal delivered to the Blacklion and Glangevlin Barracks in 1922; whether he is aware that bills for same have been sent in several times and no reply received, and if he will issue instructions to have this account settled forthwith.

A claim for £13 10s. 0d. received from Mr. Patrick McCorry, of Toam, Blacklion, was forwarded on the 7th ultimo to the Office of Public Works for settlement. It is expected that payment will be made at an early date.

SEAN MAC GIOLLA 'N RIOGH

asked the Minister for Defence if he can state the reason for the delay in settling the account due to Mr. P.F. Lynch, Ballyjamesduff, Co. Cavan, particulars of which have been furnished repeatedly without result, and if he will order payment of same forthwith.

Mr. Lynch was paid £2 11s. 0d. on the 24th ultimo in respect of motor hirage for February, 1922. A further claim in respect of hirage has been received and is under investigation.

SEAN MAC GIOLLA 'N RIOGH

asked the Minister for Defence if he can state what is the reason for the delay in settling the account due to Mr. J.J. Phair, merchant, Killeshandra, Co. Cavan, for goods supplied to The Brigade account from January 13th to March 17th, 1922, amounting to £62 17s. 4d., and for goods supplied to The Canteen in Killeshandra Barracks between February 24th and May 4th, 1922, amounting to £16 12s. 3d., and if he will give instructions to have same settled forthwith.

Claims amounting to £20 6s. 4d. for the month of January, 1922, and £39 12s. 7d. for the period 1st February to 17th March, 1922, have been received from Mr. Phair.

Payment of the first mentioned claim has not been made, as it falls within a period in respect of which claims cannot be discharged out of funds voted for the maintenance of the Army. Pending a decision as to what extent and from what funds such claims may be settled, consideration of this item of Mr. McDermott's claim must be deferred.

Payment of the other claim was made on the 19th June, 1923, but in view of the question I am communicating with Mr. Phair.

As regards goods supplied to the canteen at Killeshandra Barracks, I am asking Mr. Phair to furnish particulars with a view to settling the claim if in order as soon as possible.
