Vol. 7 No. 10

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - LAND JUDGMENTS.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he is aware that considerable trouble and loss has been sustained owing to the delay in introducing an Act of Indemnity to legalise the judgments of the Land Settlement Courts; whether there are not a great many cases affected, and whether receivers appointed by the Land Settlement Courts are still in occupation of lands, and if he will state what action he intends to take in the matter.

Out of some hundreds of cases which came before the Land Settlement Courts and which were still unsettled in 1922, there are now not more than one dozen cases outstanding. The balance has been satisfactorily settled by the parties concerned. I am hopeful that most of the outstanding cases will still be settled, and the Land Commission have been intervening in some of those cases for that purpose. If, however, the Land Commission are unable to make final arrangements in any of the outstanding cases owing to the unreasonableness of the parties or otherwise, the necessary legislation will be introduced to deal with the matter.
