CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DAMES LONGWORTH ESTATE.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether he is aware that portion of the Dames Longworth Estate, situated at Lowerwood, Castledaly, Moate, West-meath, was purchased on behalf of a number of uneconomic holders through the Irish Land Bank for the sum of £9,000 plus interest in May, 1920, and whether he is aware that those men paid down sums of £165 each at the time of sale; whether he is further aware that the said lands have been since let on the eleven months system, and that the money realised for the letting for the last few years is insufficient to pay the interest on the loan and the working expenses, and whether any representation has been made to the Irish Land Commissioners, and, if so, how soon the Commissioners expect to be in a position to deal with this and other similar cases situated at Boggagh and Knockdominy, Moate, on the estate of the late Edward Wakefield.

Mr. HOGAN

It would appear that the Kilcleigh (Lower Wood) Co-operative Farming Society purchased the lands referred to by means of an advance of £9,213 made by the National Land Bank, and that the Society made a deposit of £2,303 5s. 0d. in respect of such purchases.

The Land Commission have no information as to the user of the lands by the members of the Society, but have asked the Land Bank for particulars of the lands referred to for the purposes of the Land Act, 1923, and when received the lands will be dealt with as expeditiously as possible.
