Vol. 7 No. 16

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - COLLECTION OF SLIGO RATES THROUGH POST OFFICE.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether the collection of the rates in Sligo County by the Post Office has entailed any additional costs to the State, and, if so, whether the threepence in the pound allowed by the County Council has been sufficient to cover all such costs; further, if he can state whether, from the point of view of economy and convenience, the experiment initiated by the Sligo County Council has been a success.

The cost incurred by the Post Office in collecting rates in County Sligo is covered fully by the 3d. in the pound allowed by the County Council.

The experiment has proved entirely satisfactory from the official point of view, and I understand this is also the view of the County Council concerned. The question of extending the scheme generally is under consideration.
