Vol. 7 No. 20

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE BENEFIT.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the delay in paying unemployment insurance benefit to Patrick McNamara, Upper Drumbiggle, Ennis, and if he will expedite a decision on the case.

Patrick McNamara of Upper Drumbiggle, Ennis, claimed benefit on the 2nd January, 1924, but his claim could not be allowed because he failed to satisfy the first statutory condition for the receipt of benefit, having had only nine contributions paid for him at any time.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the reason of the delay in paying unemployment insurance benefit to Martin Casey, Tiermaclane, Ennis, Co. Clare, notwithstanding the fact that the claimant complied with the regulations governing the payment of these benefits.

Martin Casey was prosecuted and convicted in November, 1923, for claiming and obtaining unemployment benefit in respect of days on which he was employed. Some delay necessarily occurred in the payment of a subsequent claim because of the complications resulting from the irregular receipt of benefit by him on the previous claims and the benefit wrongfully obtained had to be recovered from him. This matter has now been adjusted and a further payment of six days' benefit was made to Mr. Casey on Friday, the 30th May, 1924.

Payment on the claim lodged by Mr. Casey last March was suspended pending adjustment of the question arising on his previous claims. Instructions are being issued to the branch manager at Ennis which will enable him to pay all outstanding benefit due to Mr. Casey within the next few days.
