Vol. 7 No. 24

CEISTEANNA.—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - MOYVOUGHLEY LANDS, MOATE.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he will state whether it is the intention of the Land Commission to take over the lands of Moyvoughley, Moate, consisting of nine hundred acres, the property of Mrs. Mary Maher, Moyvoughley, Moate, Westmeath, for distribution to relieve congestion in the district.

Mr. HOGAN

The lands referred to comprise a holding held under a Judicial tenancy on the estate of O'Donoghue, County Westmeath. The holding will be a "retained holding" as defined by the Land Act, 1923, and will be dealt with by the Commissioners when they are dealing with the estate under the Land Act, 1923.

Arising out of that question, would the Minister say when he thinks the lands can be taken up?

Mr. HOGAN

No, I cannot.

Can the Minister give any explanation as to the cause of the delay in taking these lands over?

Mr. HOGAN

There would in the ordinary way be a considerable time required to take over about two million acres of land.
