Vol. 8 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - COLLECTION OF MOTOR TAXES.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware of the general inconvenience caused to motor owners through the abandonment of the practice of collecting the taxes through the Post Office; that this work is now carried out by county council officials; and whether he will take an early opportunity of reconsidering the question with a view to returning to the pre-war method of collection.

I am not aware of any general inconvenience as suggested in the first part of the question. As to the second part, the county councils are carrying out the work in pursuance of the Finance and Roads Acts, 1920, and the Orders and Regulations made thereunder. To return to the pre-1914 arrangement would probably involve legislation, but I will look further into the matter.
