Vol. 8 No. 1

WORK OF THE DÁIL.

Would I be in order in asking the President now whether he would be in a position to give us a time-table of the work to be got through before the adjournment, and if he could definitely state what date the adjournment will take place, so that Deputies may be in a position to make any private arrangements they may desire to make?

Before the President answers that question, may I ask whether, owing to the fact that the 9 hours which he estimated would be given to Estimates this week, have not materialised, he would consider the advisability of making them first business on at least one day of the week?

I gave instructions to have a time-table prepared, so that it could be circulated to Deputies to-day, but in view of the long sitting yesterday I have not had time to look into it. The intention, as far as I know, was to finish the Dáil business—that is, the sending up of Bills to the Seanád— about the 16th July. It was not anticipated that so much time would be taken up this week by matters which were not provided for in the Schedule, such as the motion in connection with Clause 12 of the Treaty and also the Army motion. The latest date I find is the 16th July, but that, of course, does not provide for the return of measures from the Seanad. I will consider the question raised by Deputy Cooper as to time for the Estimates next week.

Does the Minister suggest that in making up his time-table he forgot the existence of the Dáil—that there were matters of public concern the Dáil would be interested in, such as the Boundary question and the Army Report?

I said before that, in the absence of motions for closure, any table one would prepare should be considered in light of that fact. We certainly did not expect that we would have had three sittings on the Boundary resolution.
