Vol. 8 No. 5

CEISTEANNA.—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT CLAIM (OLD LEIGHLIN).

EAMON O DUBHGHAILL

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he can explain why unemployment benefit has not been paid to Robert McCullogh, Coolnakeran, Old Leighlin, book number 978; and whether, seeing that this man has a wife and five small children to support, he will expedite payment without delay.

Robert McCullogh, of Coolnakeran, Old Leighlin, claimed unemployment Benefit at Bagenalstown on the 21st April last. That claim was disallowed under Section 8 (2) of the Unemployment Insurance Act, 1920, for a period of six weeks from the date of the termination of his last employment, as the claimant had left his employment voluntarily and without just cause. Mr. McCullogh appealed to the Court of Referees against the decision, but the disallowance was confirmed, and both the claimant and the Secretary of the Association were duly notified of the decision. Though it was competent for the applicant to lodge another claim after the expiration of six weeks from the date on which he had left his employment, it was not untill the 30th June that he renewed his application for benefit, and there will be no delay in dealing with this claim.
