Vol. 8 No. 14

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - BALLINTUBBER COMPENSATION AWARD.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that Mr. Patrick Durr, of Tubberkeigh, Ballintubber, Co. Roscommon, was, at the Quarter Sessions held in Castlebar on 19th April, 1921, awarded £750 compensation on account of the death of his son, Patrick Durr, who was shot by British Forces on January 16th, 1921; if he is aware that no payment has yet been made to Mr. Durr; whether he will state the cause of the delay, in view of the repeated applications that have been made for payment, and whether he will see that the matter is expedited.

The case referred to by the Deputy is at present receiving attention. In all cases where decrees were awarded in respect of injury to the person sustained during the period 21st January, 1919, to 11th July, 1921, ful investigation has to be made in order to determine whether liability for payment of the awards rests with the Saorstát or British Government. In this particular case the necessary investigations have not yet been completed, but it is expected that the case will be disposed of at an early date.
