Vol. 8 No. 14

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - ATHLONE OLD AGE PENSION CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if an application for an old age pension has been received from Mrs. M. A. O'Brien, Kiltoom Station P.O., Athlone; if two affidavits stating that she is over the age required have been handed in support of her claim, together with copy of the notice of her appointment as a monitress; whether payment of her pension has yet been made, and, if not, whether he will give the reason.

This case came before me on appeal in April, 1923, on the ground of age. The claimant was recorded as 22 years of age when married on 9th February, 1880, and would, therefore, have been only sixty-five years old in February, 1923. She was duly notified of the appeal. The only evidence submitted in proof of her age consisted merely of informal written statements by four neighbours which could not be regarded as conclusive proof of age. No affidavits were received. No allusion was made to the applicant's appointment as a monitress. In view of the marriage record and in the absence of more definite or conclusive evidence of age, the claim was disallowed on the 12th June, 1923.
