Vol. 8 No. 21

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - LEAGUE OF NATIONS AGENDA.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he will state what will be the agenda for the Fifth Assembly of the League of Nations; whether the Draft Treaty of Mutual Guarantees for facilitating the application of Articles 10 and 16 of the Pact will be included in that Agenda, and, if so, if he will state what attitude the Irish Government has decided to adopt with regard to this Draft Treaty or to the alleged alternative proposals of the British Government, as mentioned in the Press.

There are twenty-six items on the agenda for the Fifth Assembly. Amongst them are: (1) the reduction of armaments; (2) intellectual co-operation; (3) health organisation; (4) child welfare.

While the Treaty of Mutual Guarantees does not appear on the agenda, the question will very probably be raised in the discussion on the amendment to Article 16 of the Covenant. No decision will be taken in regard to the Draft Treaty until the whole matter has been studied in conjunction with the other members of the League at Geneva and fully discussed in the Dáil.

Can the Minister state if matters to be discussed will include regulations of frontiers and boundaries?

I do not think so.

If any Deputies were to apply to the Minister for copies of the Agenda for that Assembly would it be possible to get them?

I can put a copy in the library here.

Not to be taken away?
