Vol. 8 No. 21

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - COURTS OF JUSTICE ACT.

TOMAS MAC EOIN

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state when it is intended to bring into operation Parts II. and III. of the Courts of Justice Act, 1924; if he is aware of the inconvenience that is being caused to solicitors and the public by reason of the fact that the county courts are regarded as having held their last sittings and that no other courts have as yet been set up or machinery provided whereby actions and other legal proceedings can be initiated; and if, in particular, he has considered the position that has been created in regard to transfers of publicans' licences, notices of application for which have to be served a considerable time before the hearing and other statutory requirements which have to be complied with within certain specified periods.

It is intended to make the necessary Order, bringing Parts II. and III. of the Courts of Justices Acts, 1924, into full operation, in a few days' time. I am not aware that any serious inconvenience has arisen or is likely to arise because of the fact that the Order has not yet been made; as the Deputy is no doubt aware the Act itself allows a period of five months in which to make this Order, and four full months have not yet expired.
