Vol. 8 No. 22

CEISTEANNA.—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CLONES SANITATION QUESTION.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state what steps, if any, have been taken to remove the source of nuisance known as the "Horse Pool" on the Newtownbutler Road, Clones; if he is aware that the Medical Officer of Health who condemned it over twelve months ago, considered it likely to cause infectious disease.

I would refer the Deputy to the previous reply of the 19th March last on this subject.

The Clones Urban District Council instructed their Town Surveyor to have the matter attended to. At the same time the Council asked the Rural District Council whether they were willing to pay a proportion of the expenditure. Inquiries are being made as to how the matter now stands, and I shall be pleased to inform the Deputy of the result.

Is the Minister aware that the residents of the district have subscribed personally towards a fund for the removal of this nuisance, and that they have done so in order to prevent disease in the Clones district?

It is not so much a question of the residents subscribing as of the obligations of the Clones Urban and Rural District Councils. Until that question is settled, the whole matter will be a running sore.
