Vol. 9 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CLOSING OF PUBLICHOUSES.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that members of the Gárda Síochána have orders to compel publicans to close their premises at 9 p.m. in some towns in Munster, and if he will state under what legislation power is given to enforce this order.

Up to the passing of the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 1924, all licensed premises situated outside towns of a population of 5,000 or upwards were required to close at 9 p.m. on Saturday. The Act referred to does not extend the hours during which intoxicating liquor may be sold and the Gárda Síochána have been instructed to see that the law is strictly observed.
