Vol. 9 No. 4

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - FAILURE OF POTATO CROPS AND TURF SHORTAGE.

LIAM MAC SIOGHUIRD

asked the Minister for Finance whether in view of the partial failure of the potato crop and of the impossibility of harvesting turf, and of the widespread hardship that must result therefrom, he can state if any provision to meet the grave situation thus created is contemplated by the Government.

I am in communication with the Minister for Lands and Agriculture and the Minister for Industry and Commerce with a view to ascertaining the extent and location of the distress. When the necessary reports are furnished and particulars are available showing the size of the problem in question, the Government will consider the most suitable method for dealing with the matter, and will take all necessary steps.
