Vol. 9 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CLAIM FOR PROFICIENCY PAY.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware that Volunteer Daniel O'Connell, Lackagh Cottage, Kildare, Army No. 51398, who attested on April 11th, 1923, and who was discharged on April 4th, 1924, has not been paid proficiency pay as battalion barber, for which he was specially recruited, although he has made several applications; further, whether a battalion barber's bill for £6 6s. 0d. was entered in the Battalion accounts, Kerry Command, as paid to O'Connell, which he did not sign for or receive, and whether he will have enquiries made with a view to payment.

I regret that it has not been practicable to dispose of Mr. O'Connell's claim before now. The matter is, however, receiving special attention, and I will communicate the result to the Deputy in due course.
