Vol. 9 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - PRESERVATIVES IN FOOD.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether his attention has been called to the report of a Committee appointed by the British Government to consider the use of preservatives in food, and whether, in view of the fact that similar preservatives are largely used in the Saorstát, he is considering the possibility of introducing legislation thereon.

The use of preservatives in food has been engaging my attention. The report referred to will receive consideration when it becomes available. Any necessary action either legislative or administrative which may be desirable, will be taken. The provisions respecting public health contained in the Local Government Bill will be found to be of great assistance in this and cognate matters.

Arising out of that answer, how long does it take for a report which appeared in the public Press nearly a fortnight ago, to become available in the Minister's Department?

It depends upon the circumstances in each particular case.
